OCEAN
Ocean Protocol (OCEAN)
Is OCEAN Halal?
Data marketplace — utility token for data trading.
What You Should Know
Ocean's current token page says OCEAN has no intended staking, governance, payment, reward or DeFi utility after the ASI transition, while older docs describe datatokens and data licensing. That status change makes the asset more speculative and leaves data-privacy and licensing questions unresolved.
⚠️ Concerns
- •Current docs disclaim intended protocol utility
- •Token transition uncertainty
- •Data privacy and licensing questions
- •Speculation

Business-activity disclosure
Ocean's earlier protocol design supported data marketplaces and tokenized data-access licenses, while current official token documentation states that OCEAN has no intended utility value following the ASI transition. Utility, data licensing, privacy and speculative trading therefore require school-specific review rather than an invented issuer ratio.
Limitation: No issuer revenue, balance sheet or universal prohibited-activity numerator exists, and current token-status documentation does not provide company financials.
Purification
No issuer income stream exists for a standardized purification calculation; historical data-market activity and current token status require a qualified scholar's treatment.
Inputs, assumptions and primary sources
- OCEAN is a decentralized token rather than an operating company or fund with issuer financial statements.
- Current Ocean documentation says OCEAN no longer has intended utility as a staking, governance, payment, reward, DeFi or security token after Ocean's departure from the ASI Alliance; older Ocean data-token documentation describes tokenized access licenses and marketplace exchange, so historical and current states must be distinguished.
- Debt, liquidity, receivables and income ratios are not economically applicable; placeholder inputs exist only for the shared record schema and are not a financial classification.
This is a reproducible financial screen, not a fatwa. A failed total-assets screen can coexist with a pass under a market-cap methodology. ZakatInvest keeps the qualitative assessment separate so numerical thresholds do not erase material context.
